MEDICARE SECTION

MY COMMENTS to my clients:

I want to thank my clients for reaching out to me this AEP 2024.

I have received your voicemails, emails, and some text messages.

I want you to know that as busy as this enrollment period is, I am trying to return all calls, emails, text messages in a first come first serve basis.

I am sorry for the delay in responding back to you.

With so many Medicare Advantage plans ending 12/31/2024 due to the government Inflation Reduction Act, I am seeing a influx of client contacts who need new Medicare insurance plans for 2025.

These Medicare Advantage plans are ending because of the millions of dollars that the government is holding back in subsidies to the insurance companies. These plans are no longer profitable to the insurance companies. So they are making huge changes including plans that are non-commissionable to agents moving forward.

So what can you expect?

New Medicare Advantage plans are being put into place and may have higher premiums, higher copays, reduced ancillary benefits (like dental, vision, hearing, OTC, and higher prescription deductibles).

What is the good news?

There is another enrollment period called the Open Enrollment Period (OEP) which runs the first quarter of the year – January 1st to March 31st.

You can only change from a Medicare Advantage plan to another Medicare Advantage plan during this time.

If you make a plan change in January your new Medicare Advantage plan starts February 1st.

If you make a plan change in February your new Medicare Advantage plan starts March 1st.

THOUGHT TO CONSIDER!!!

If you do wait to make a plan change with me in January 2025, you still have the Medicare Advantage plan from 2024 and are subject to any changes in that plan, including higher premiums and copays … including if Family Care Medical Group and St. Joseph’s does not agree to a contract with Excellus BCBS for 2025 (you would be out-of network).

Also, I understand that Humana does not have Upstate Hospital

in-network for 2025.

SOLUTION!

This is doable, but if you do wait to make a plan change in 2025 you would be out-of-network WITH A PPO PLAN and would have to pay the total bill upfront and seek reimbursement from the carrier (insurance company) minus your copay or coinsurance.

This would NOT work with HMO Medicare Advantage plan because there is NO out-of-network coverage.

IF YOUR MEDICARE ADVANTAGE PLAN IS ENDING BY DECEMBER 31st, 2024 – YOU DO HAVE UNTIL DECEMBER 31st, 2024 TO MAKE A PLAN CHANGE FOR 2025. (instead of the cut off date of December 7th).

You will need a January 1st effective date so there is no gap in coverage for the new year.

PLAN CHOICES FOR 2025

If you are interested in looking at the Medicare Advantage plan choices for 2025 from:

I have the Summary of Benefits for the 2025 plans in an email, ready to go.

Please let me know if you would like this emailed to you, at: tcangemi@RetirementHPMS.com

The plan options would be to long to include in this newsletter.
